081 Pizzeria – A Slice of Naples in Peckham

Tucked away in Peckham, 081 Pizzeria brings the spirit of Naples to South London with serious flair. It’s the creation of Naples-born pizzaiolo Andrea Asciuti, who began slinging dough out of a car park at Peckham Levels in 2021 before opening this permanent spot in 2023. Since then, it’s earned a well-deserved place among the top 50 pizzerias in Europe.

The restaurant itself is small and bustling, with a casual, slightly cramped vibe that feels just right for a proper pizzeria. It’s not the sort of place for a long, lingering meal — but for a quick, quality bite, it hits the mark.

All the pizzas are made with a 72-hour naturally fermented dough, San Marzano DOP tomato sauce, and cooked at 450°C for 90 seconds using the traditional Neapolitan ‘slap’ technique. The result? A perfectly fluffy, slightly chewy crust with just the right amount of char.

The menu is massive, with loads of bold, creative topping combinations we’re itching to go back and try.

What we ate

We got the 081 pizza (essentially a buffala) to get a sense of their basics, and it was excellent. Rich tomato base, creamy mozzarella, and that standout dough really made it sing.

The aubergine balls were the only letdown — they tasted like they’d come straight from the freezer and lacked the freshness we’d hoped for.

But the doughnuts? Absolute heaven. Made from the same dough as the pizzas and filled with an unreal pistachio cream, they’re reason alone to visit. Do not leave without ordering them.

In short: 081 is one of London’s best spots for Neapolitan pizza. Go for the pizza, stay for the doughnuts. We’ll definitely be back for round two — and this time, we’re going bold with the toppings.
