EVOO like never before
The meal began with fresh sourdough and Gutiiau bread, served alongside two types of olive oil: one light and fruity, the other with a peppery kick.
The thoughtful touch of asking, “How do you like your olive oil?” not only showcases Chef Moreno’s commitment to personalising the dining experience but also encourages you to appreciate the nuances of high-quality olive oil
Starters That Shine
The meal started off with a few plates of sharing starters
Oysters from Cornwall and Ireland: Incredibly fresh, briny, and served simply with lemon and a chilli sauce.
Baccalà Mantecato: A whipped salt cod dish topped with a seasonal garnish (for us, romesco broccoli and samphire). Silky, delicate, and an excellent nod to Venetian tradition.
Homemade Cuttlefish Arancini: These crispy rice balls were bursting with flavour. Even Alice, who normally hates cuttlefish, declared them as ‘amazing’.
Sgombro Grill: Grilled mackerel on a bed of salsa verde and pickled radish. The salsa verde had a pesto-like richness that paired beautifully with the fish.

The Main Attractions
Carrying on the seafood theme, most of the dishes are designed for sharing, and they also have veggie and meat options, so if you’re dining with a non-seafood lover you don’t need to worry.
La Pentolaccia (Shellfish Chitarrine Pasta): Hands down a showstopper. The pasta was fresh, the sauce intensely flavourful. Make sure you ask for the ‘Scarpetta’, some accompanying bread which is perfect for sopping up every drop.
Ox Tail: Fall-apart tender and deeply comforting—a great option for anyone less inclined toward seafood.
Calamaro alla Griglia: Grilled squid served with peppers. Tender, with a wonderful balance of smoky and sweet flavours.

Sweet Finish
Biancomangiare: A light almond milk panna cotta style dessert enhanced by tonka beans, lemon, and madernassa pear. It was a sublime conclusion—delicate yet bursting with flavour with a rich, melt-in-your-mouth texture. An absolute must-try and a brilliant twist on a Sicilian classic.

Drinks & Service
We started with welcome cocktails, each a creative spin on the Negroni. The “Spagliato” and the “Pomegroni” were both refreshing and well-balanced. The wine pairings throughout the meal felt carefully chosen, each bottle complementing the dishes without overpowering them.
Final Thoughts
Overall, our experience at Baccalà was outstanding. The food is consistently excellent, with each plate showcasing Chef Moreno’s inventive twist on Italian classics.
The service is attentive and genuinely warm—you can tell this is a family passionately looking after their guests.
Whether you’re a seafood devotee or a meat lover (they also have good veggie options), there’s something to delight everyone.
Stylish yet cosy, Baccalà is the perfect spot for an intimate dinner or a lively get-together.
We can’t wait to go back.
