While we have invested in various coffee makers at home -from a coffee grinder to filter coffees, AeroPress, French press, and more - there’s nothing like enjoying a coffee out in our local area.

East Dulwich offers a wonderful variety of coffee shops, each with its own unique character. You’ll find takeaway-only spots, cafes nestled in leafy areas, and others tucked away in corners of delightful delis. Our favourite takeaway coffee shop in the area, Bon, is from the team behind Browns of Brockley and nearby St. David Coffee House in Forest Hill. Expect superb coffee to go, a friendly smile, and perhaps a pastry, a slice of cake, or a sourdough loaf to take home.

It’s a charming corner shop along Lordship Lane, surrounded by other great food options like Yard Sale Pizza and Meatliquor, along with some lovely homeware shops and the likes that Lordship Lane offers.

Nido

Indoor and outdoor seating, Laptop friendly

Nido is the new kid on the block, offering speciality coffee that can be enjoyed in the cafe, outside on one of the benches, or on the go. Conveniently located near East Dulwich train station, it’s perfect for those passing through on their morning commute.

Recently redecorated by its lovely owners Michelle and Alex, Nido’s vibrant orange exterior is hard to miss (reminiscent of the buildings of Oaxaca).

They serve baked goods, smoothies and are laptop-friendly, making it a cute spot to work or relax.

Redemption Roasters

Indoor and outdoor seating, Laptop friendly

One of 13 Redemption Roasters locations across London, this cafe is set in the picturesque and leafy Dulwich Village. Here, you can enjoy speciality coffee, pastries, and light lunches with indoor and outdoor seating. It’s a great spot to stop by if you’re strolling through the lovely Dulwich Park.

Redemption Roasters has a mission to reduce reoffending by providing prison leavers with skills in the coffee trade. You can even buy their beans or their newly launched Nespresso-compatible pods to brew at home.

Jones of Brockley

Deli with a nice coffee machine, no seating

While not technically a coffee shop, Jones of Brockley is a lovely deli offering a wide range of quality products, including bread, cheese, vegetables, wines, and dry goods, alongside coffee to-go. It’s the perfect spot to grab a quality coffee while picking up some delicious pantry staples.

Kanella is an independent coffee spot offering a taste of Greece. Expect delicious pastries, lunch options, and Greek-inspired dishes from this Cypriot-run cafe. Located further up Lordship Lane, it’s ideal for a relaxed coffee break or a quick lunch. Being a larger coffee shop, it’s also family and buggy-friendly.

Spinach

A cosy neighbourhood spot, Spinach serves coffee, breakfast, lunch, and dinner on weekends. Their seating spills out onto the pavement, and during colder months, they provide blankets so you can cosy up with your coffee. No reservations are needed for breakfast or lunch, and they also serve cocktails if you’re in the mood.

GAIL’s Bakery

You’ve probably heard of GAIL’s, a well-loved bakery found across London and beyond. Dulwich has two locations: one just off Lordship Lane and another in Dulwich Village. Both spots offer freshly brewed coffee and a tempting array of baked goods. Expect a family-friendly vibe with lots of parents and prams.

Söderberg

This Scandinavian-inspired bakery serves coffee, brunch, and a variety of Danish pastries. It’s a great spot to pick up a coffee and stay for a cinnamon roll. They offer a loyalty card where your 10th coffee is free. With limited laptop-friendly spaces on their high stools, it’s an ideal place for a quick coffee break. Söderberg has locations across London, the UK, and its original shop in Copenhagen.

Rye Books

Rye Books is a small, cherished independent bookshop serving coffee as well. Established in 2011, it has become a cornerstone of the local community, offering a thoughtfully curated selection of books across various genres, including fiction, non-fiction, and children's literature. Not one for people who don’t like dogs as there is a very large (but friendly/ cute) dog always in the store.

Not a coffee shop but a lifestyle store that brings a breath of fresh, green air to the neighbourhood. Specialising in indoor plants and unique gifts, this charming shop feels like a mini-escape into a lush indoor garden, it also serves coffees which you can enjoy in the store surrounded by the lovely plants or grab one to go.

Amalfi Restaurant & Store in East Dulwich is a hidden gem for authentic Italian bites and pantry staples. We love stopping by for a quick espresso, Italian style. Order, drink, and pay right at the counter. It’s perfect for a pick-me-up.

Dulwich Clock Cafe

The Dulwich Clock Café, tucked away in the heart of Dulwich Park, is the perfect spot to recharge, whether you're mid-stroll or just needing a relaxing escape. We love popping in for a quality coffee or slice of cake—made with locally sourced ingredients that add to its charm.

Since Colicci took over, they've transformed it into a cosy, family-friendly space where you can enjoy handmade sourdough pizzas straight from their Italian pizza oven or indulge in something sweet.

With plenty of outdoor seating, the café offers a beautiful view of the park, making it ideal for soaking up a bit of nature with your coffee in hand.
