A Must-Stop for Cheese Lovers
Tucked away in Bushmills, Maegden is a gem of a cheesemonger and deli that's well worth a stop if you're heading to the North Coast. The shop (which started off as a food truck) stocks an excellent selection of artisanal cheeses, gourmet pantry staples, and deli delights — perfect whether you're looking to elevate a dinner party or just treat yourself.
We tried two of their grilled cheese sandwiches (cheese toasties), and they were fantastic. Not overly stuffed — which could be a plus or minus depending on how you like your toasties — but they struck a lovely balance: rich, gooey, but never greasy or dry.
Each came with a side of pickled vegetables (cucumbers, jalapeños, or rhubarb) and a generous spoonful of chilli jam and house-made kimchi. The accompaniments were delicious — bright, punchy, and great at cutting through the richness of the cheese.
Whether you're passing through or staying nearby, Maegden is a brilliant spot to stock up on cheeses, grab a quick bite, or pick up something special for a picnic or evening spread. A proper deli with real heart and flavour.
