Pizarro - London

Our Rating: ★★ | £££ - Great sharing plates, great vibe, reasonable price (How we rate restaurants)

A taste of Spain in the heart of London. The moment you step in, you’re greeted with a vibrant and warm atmosphere, accentuated by the open windows that let in a refreshing breeze, instantly transporting you to a Spanish holiday.

The menu is a delight, filled with tempting options that make it hard to choose. Like everywhere in London these days, it’s sharing plates, of course.

The croquetas are consistently crispy on the outside and deliciously creamy on the inside. These are a must-try every time (we’ve been to Jose’s tapas bar many times for them).

One dish that blew us away was the tuna. It’s unlike any tuna dish you’ve had before, prepared to perfection with a unique twist that sets it apart. It’s refreshing and incredibly flavourful, making it an absolute highlight of the meal.

The vibe of the restaurant is lively and welcoming, thanks in large part to the fantastic team. They’re attentive, friendly, and really add to the overall experience.

In summary, Pizarro on Bermondsey Street offers a fantastic dining experience with outstanding food, a great menu, and a charming atmosphere that’s hard to beat. Don’t miss out on this gem.

What we ate

There were four of us, and we shared everything. We didn’t leave absolutely stuffed, but we were full. Our favourite dishes are in bold.

Starters:

  • Croquettas Del Dia (aubergine and blue cheese)

  • Boquerones en vinagre (Pickled anchovies)

  • Gamba roja con tomate de penjar (Raw red prawns)

  • Mejillones con mojo rojo (Mussels is spicey sauce)

  • Flor de atún y rape (Bluefin tuna and Monkfish rose in mango sauce)

One of the surprises of the evening was the tuna. It was listed on the mains side of the menu, but it’s actually a starter. We didn’t realise this, so when it arrived, we were taken aback by its size. However, one bite was enough to convince us of its deliciousness, so we had to order a second one!

Main:

  • Pierna de cordero lechal (Lamb leg and potato gratin)

Dessert:

  • Tarta de chocolate y caramelo (Chocolate tart)

  • Flan con nata (Baked custard with whipped cream)

Wine:

  • Macia Batle Tinto 1856 (Red)
