Best Restaurants on Bermondsey Street
Bermondsey Street is one of our favourite streets in London. It has so much to offer, and it’s only a stone’s throw away from London Bridge station. B street, as we call it, has colourful shop fronts, and behind each door, you’ll find lots of independent shops, pubs, grocers, and cafes.
For such a short street, it also has a great selection of tasty restaurants. No wonder it keeps us coming back time and time again. Below we will highlight some of our favourites from the 4 years we spent living and working in the area.
You can also hop over to Maltby Street Market, a 5-minute walk away for a more casual street-food experience.

Flour & Grape
Sharing pasta plates
If there’s one restaurant we’ve returned to again and again, it’s this one—a bustling Italian restaurant serving fresh handmade pasta and Italian wines. Get there early or expect to queue, but don’t worry, they have a virtual queue on the ‘WalkUp’ app, and you can always wait for your table downstairs in their cocktail bar.
If you do get stuck in a 60-90 minute queue, we recommend heading over to Bermondsey Corner and having a glass of wine whilst you wait
José
Spanish tapas bar
José may be small, but it doesn’t disappoint in taste or atmosphere. This tapas bar is a real treat and looks out onto the ever-thriving Bermondsey street. They don’t take bookings so you have to turn up and wait but the food is amazing here with a genuine homage to Spanish tapas restaurants.
We highly recommend the squid ink croquettes if they are on the menu (the menu changes daily).
Pizzaro
Spanish cuisine
Pizarro is chef José’s second restaurant on Bermondsey Street serving up even more tapas alongside more substantial Spanish dishes. It’s fancier and more of a sit-down experience than the taps bar, and some dishes on the menu must be ordered in advance, so make sure you check the menu before you go.
Read our full review of Pizarro here (including food pics of course).
* Update October 2024 - Chef Jose Pizarro has opened a new restaurant called Lolo on Bermondsey Street, making it 3 sites all right by each other. We will update you on how it is once we get a chance to visit
Casse-Crôute
French Bistro
A cosy restaurant which will escort you to France with its delicious and homely food and French wines, not to mention the all-French team. They serve a daily changing chalkboard menu, french style, which usually only has 9 items and can also change during your meal. The mains are quite large so typically you’ll be having a starter each and a main to share between your group.
Pique-Nique
French Bistro
Owned by the same people as Casse-Crôute, Pique-Nique also taps into classic French bistro cuisine with a daily changing chalkboard menu and a rotisserie but it has a few more options and the restaurant is a bit bigger with a larger outdoor seating area.
Cafe Murano
Fancy Italian
Cafe Murano is part of Angela Hartnett's esteemed group of Italian restaurants, renowned for their commitment to quality and the neighbourhood dining experience. The Bermondsey location stands out with its unique design, differentiating it from its siblings in St James and Covent Garden.
A notable feature of this venue is its open kitchen, which takes centre stage, allowing diners to observe the cooking up close. With dining counters overlooking the bar and kitchen, you can enjoy a dynamic and interactive dining experience. The menu at Cafe Murano Bermondsey is curated to showcase fresh, seasonal dishes.
Hakata
Ramen Bar
Hakata embodies the essence of a Japanese ramen bar celebrated for offering high-quality comfort food within a vibrant atmosphere, complemented by friendly and efficient service. The restaurant's interior design and ambience are crafted to transport you straight to the streets of Tokyo.
Hakata also has a selection of smaller dishes, allowing you to explore a wider range of Japanese cuisine.
Baccalà
Seafood
Baccalà on Bermondsey Street brings flavours of the Mediterranean to the heart of London. This quaint seafood restaurant offers a menu that pays homage to the rich, salty splendour of salt cod - a staple in Mediterranean cuisine.
The ambience here combines rustic charm with a modern twist, providing a cosy yet elegant setting perfect for indulging in their signature dishes.
Kin + Deum
Fancy Thai
Kin + Deum is a contemporary Thai restaurant that blends traditional flavours with a modern, minimalist approach.
The atmosphere is effortlessly chic, with an understated decor that allows the vibrant dishes to take centre stage. Kin + Deum's menu is a thoughtful curation of Thailand's culinary best, from the zesty and refreshing som tum (papaya salad) to the rich and aromatic green curry, each dish is crafted with a dedication to authenticity and a twist of creativity.
Lokma
Turkish
Lokma is a Turkish restaurant that takes you straight to the heart of Istanbul.
This restaurant exudes a cosy yet sophisticated vibe, making it the perfect spot for both casual lunches and intimate evening meals.
At the heart of Lokma's menu is a celebration of traditional Turkish cuisine, with an array of mezes, succulent grilled meats, and seafood dishes that are as flavourful as they are beautifully presented. A standout dish, the Lokma special, a succulent mix of lamb and beef over aromatic rice, encapsulates the rich, comforting flavours of Turkey. The restaurant's interiors, blending traditional Turkish designs with contemporary touches, complement the dining experience, creating an inviting atmosphere where every meal feels like a festive gathering.
Locanda Del Melo
Italian - Homemade style
Locanda del Melo, just around the corner is an accidental find of ours and we’ve been back many times. It doesn’t have a working website and it gives a real homely vibe. The restaurant is small and located in the back of the shop where you can shop from a curated selection of Italian delicacies.
The menu is classic Italian dishes, the service is authentically slow but the food and service are amazing.
Franco Manca
Sourdough chain pizza
Yes, it’s a chain. But, you can’t deny, that it’s still a very good pizza. If you want to grab a quick pizza and sit in the park or the rose garden in the summer then Franca Manca is perfect!

More from the area
If Bermondsey Street isn’t enough, you should definitely check out Maltby Street Market, which is just a 5-minute walk away. In our opinion, it’s the best food street in London becuase not very many people really know about it!
