Best Restaurants in Milos, Greece

In Milos, the quality of the cuisine is as remarkable as the views. Everywhere we ate we had fresh, local ingredients packed with flavour. The theme was mainly seafood (seems obvious) and since the Island is small all the restaurants were pretty laid back and run by locals who have lived on the island for a long time; if not, all their lives.

You can’t really go wrong in Milos when it comes to eating well but below we’ve given you the highlights of our trip along side other recommendations that we came across.

Quick tips about eating out in Milos:

  • Most restaurants don’t take bookings, so you must get there early for a table or be prepared to wait. Arriving before 7pm should be okay to get you seated swiftly but any later, then expect a queue.

  • Many restaurants are seasonal (May to October) so if you go in the off-season places may be closed. Make sure you check their socials and websites (if they have them!) before your trip to confirm that they are open.

  • Don’t expect fancy websites and Insta pages with menus, most of the restaurants don’t keep these up to date so be prepared to just rock up, embrace the unknown and enjoy your meal.

Foods that you must try in Milos

  • Local fried cheeses (generally goat’s cheese)

  • Fried feta wrapped in pastry and drizzled with honey (restaurant: O Hamos!)

  • Greek Salad (obviously)

  • Zucchini balls - like a pakora, very fluffy and rich

  • Sun-dried octopus (in vinegar) - very tender and a BBQ-ish flavour (restaurant: Medusa)

  • Cheese pies - pastry with feta and bechamel

  • Watermelon pie

  • Orange pie

  • Ladenia - traditional savoury pie

  • Goat with lemon mustard sauce (O Hamos!)

  • Baklava

O! Hamos!

Adamantas

This Greek tavern is not just one of our favourite spots in Milos, but one of our favourite restaurants on the planet! The allure of O! Hamos! was so strong that we visited twice and have been reminiscing about our meals there ever since. The hand-written menu packs a punch with local flavours as they operate a farm-to-table concept.

Plan to arrive around 7pm to beat the larger crowds, though you might still face a 45-minute wait. Any later, and you could be waiting up to two hours. But don't worry, O! Hamos! is situated right by Papikinou beach, complete with a beautiful beach bar where you can relax and enjoy some drinks as you wait.

Just trust us; don’t think twice and order the following:

  • Grilled cheese (homemade from their very own goat’s milk)

  • Baked wrapped lamb

  • Hazelnut mousse (think smooth and silky Nutella mousse) - Alice loved it so much she ordered it twice and has been trying to recreate at home since

Medusa

Mandrakia

Medusa, situated in the fishing town of Mandrakia, is located right on the sea where they hang their sun-dried octopus, just below the restaurant. So it won’t come as a surprise that seafood is their specialty. It’s a perfect spot for a long, leisurely lunch.

This is a delightful, relaxed spot which feels very typical Greek with its white-washed exterior with blue furniture with the backdrop of the ocean. Not to mention, if you’re a cat lover then strap in as you may have a furry friend come to sit next to you. Ours came and had a nap in the sun.

I’m afraid once again they don’t take bookings and it is located a little off the beaten track.

Make sure you try the octopus in vinegar.

Bakalikon

Triovasalos

Sometimes the best finds are the ones you stumble upon unexpectedly, and Bakalikon is exactly that. A charming roadside eatery, it was our first dining stop upon arriving in Milos. Offering a slow-paced, relaxed atmosphere, it's a spot where you can unwind and immerse yourself in the local vibe.

The staff are as friendly as they come, making you feel right at home. Dining here, with delicious dishes served one after the other, you get a real sense of the laid-back lifestyle that Milos embodies.
