Cafe Mondo - Camberwell, London
Our Rating: ★★★ | ££££ - Incredible sandwiches (How we rate restaurants)
London’s food scene is world-class, but we’ve always felt the city’s sandwich and bagel culture hasn’t quite caught up. There are good spots, but they are few and far between.
Enter Cafe Mondo in Camberwell, bringing serious sandwich game to South East London.
Service is quick and efficient. There are queues, but they move fast, and the payoff is worth it. Given the rate of orders it feels buzzy inside. There is indoor and out door seating, or take away if you fancy.
Here’s what we had:
Fish Finger Sandwich – Fresh, generously filled, and elevated by a delicious gribiche sauce. The egg and mustard combo absolutely hits. It’s served in Toad Bakery’s (located just next door) white loaf.
Mondo Frango – Juicy grilled chicken with a punchy peri sauce. It’s not overly spicy, but it packs loads of flavour. Served in their own freshly baked bread.
Kale Caesar Salad (on the side) – Creamy, well-balanced dressing and super satisfying.
Ginger Beer – A crisp, refreshing match for the food. SUPERMALT ginger beer is the one.
*Frango means chicken in Portuguese

We loved it here. Big, filling sandwiches, great vibe, and excellent value. It’s the kind of place you’ll find yourself returning to again and again.
Bonus: they open in the evenings as a bar, too, so you know we’ll be back to check that out soon.
